7 Days Lemosho Route
A 7-day safari from $1,913
For the 7-day Lemosho Route, the itinerary typically omits the additional acclimatisation day at Shira 1 Camp. Travellers can choose between 6-day, 7-day, or 8-day programmes depending on their schedule and preferences. However, longer itineraries are strongly recommended, as they offer better acclimatisation opportunities, significantly increasing your chances of a safe and successful summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Pickup at Kilimanjaro international airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi town, thereafter our experienced guide will come to brief you about the trek and do an equipment check to make sure you have all the necessary mountain gear. Then you will spend overnight in your hotel.
Moshi
Departing from Moshi, it's a 3-and-a-half-hour drive to Lemosho Gate, where you will complete entry formalities. We will patiently wait for our permits and enjoy lunch before commencing your trek through lush undisturbed forest where you may be lucky enough to see Colobus monkeys. The path undulates, steeply in places. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and quite slippery. We highly recommend gaiters and trekking poles here.
Kilimanjaro National Park
Today is a long day because we will skip Shira I Camp and go directly to Shira II Camp. Around 7:00 am you will start to hike from Mti Mkubwa to the second camp through the heath and moorland zone; following the Shira ridge, we enter a vast high-altitude desert plateau where we get the first clear view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Shira II Camp (3900 m).
Kilimanjaro National Park
Your climb today will take you steadily up and over the expansive ridgelines of high desert to Lava Tower at 4,600 m. The trek to the base of the tower, a 300-foot-high volcanic plug, takes around 4-5 hours. From here begins a steep descent into the Barranco Valley, passing exotic large flowering plants, Senecio Kilimanjaro. This descent will take 1-2 hours. Although you end your day at almost the same elevation as you started, today is important for acclimatisation. Camp is in a beautiful, sheltered valley below the imposing Barranco Wall.
Kilimanjaro National Park
Begin the day climbing the Barranco Wall, an impressive scramble that will reward you with fantastic views back towards camp. From the top, at 4,200 m, follow an undulating path around the mountainside. On a clear day, there are spectacular views of Kibo to your left and Mount Meru to your right. After descending into the Karanga Valley, your climb takes you up a short, steep path to camp.
Kilimanjaro National Park
Today you will make your way to Barafu Camp. The landscape is very dry, and the ground cracks like glass under your boots. As you make your way through the Afro-alpine desert to the rocky Barafu Camp, a sense of excitement sweeps over you as your final stretch is only a few hours away. The Barafu Camp with its rocky scenery allows for a stunning view of Mawenzi Peak and the summit path ahead. After an early dinner and last-minute preparation for tomorrow, you will go to bed.
Kilimanjaro National Park
At around midnight you will be woken with some hot tea and biscuits in order to get you ready for today’s ascents. In the early hours of the morning, begin your final ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro, taking approximately 6-7 hours. It can be very cold at night at these elevations, but it will be warm by the end of the hiking day, and you need clothing for both extremes. Just when you think you’ve reached your limit, the sun will rise and you’ll be rewarded with a rich red sky framing Mawenzi. At Stella Point (5,750 m), join the crater rim. From here, climb less steeply to Uhuru Peak. the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and in Africa. From the summit descend to Mweka Hut, with lunch served on the way, taking around 6 hours. Enjoy your last dinner on the mountain and a well-earned sleep.
Kilimanjaro National Park
After breakfast, begin your final descent through the Mweka Montane Forest to Mweka Gate, a trek of approximately 3 hours, where we complete park formalities and receive certificates, which you can hang up with pride. The vehicle will be ready to drive you back to the hotel for a warm shower at Moshi. It’s definitely time to celebrate!
